Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

This year your child will be working with Miss Smith and Mr Sloane. Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying all curriculum areas throughout the year. We will be settling pupils back into school routines over the first couple of weeks and will focus on their wellbeing

PE

Y5 PE is on a  Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure children have their PE kits on these days. PE kits consist of black shorts or joggers, white t-shirt and black pumps or trainers.

Playtime & Snacks

Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break. If you wish your child to have milk, please order this from the office one half term in advance otherwise only water can be consumed. Toast is available at playtime.

Entrance to School

Classroom doors open at 8:40am. The register is taken at 8:45 and classroom doors will be locked at this time.

If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. You will not be able to accompany your child to the classroom.

Reading and Homework

Reading

It is very important that your child reads for 20 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to show this. We will keep records of the books your child has read in school.  It is also very important that your child has their book in school every day so they can change it when necessary.

 Maths

A Maths homework sheet will be sent out every Monday and is expected to be completed and handed in by Friday morning.  This homework should not take you child more than 20 minutes to complete and if your child is struggling with the work please see a member of staff.

Additionally, a weekly times table test will be set on our Purple Mash platform. This again will be set on a Monday and is required to be completed by Friday. We will be focusing on all times tables and division facts throughout the year. Once again if there any problems accessing the test or your child completing this, then please come and discuss this with Miss Smith.

School Uniform

Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.

We have attached a copy of our curriculum coverage throughout the year and it would be fantastic if you could share some of your experiences of these topics to add to their understanding and to share with the rest of the class.

We hope your children will be very happy in Year 5, and we look forward to working with them.

Kind regards,

Year 5 Staff
